January is typically the coolest month in New York City. Being in a city full of tall buildings can make the wind feel colder and stronger than normal, so be sure to dress for the weather.

le to get some snow in January, but we haven't seen a really big snowstorm in some years. Snow does not shut down NYC like many other cities as much of our transportation is underground. Since heat escapes through one's extremities first, make sure your feet, ears, head and hands are covered well. You'll feel warmer longer. The trick is to 
wear layers, such as t-shirt or long-sleeve cotton shirt, under a sweater or under a coat.Bring a hat that covers your ears, not a baseball cap. I was there in January last year. It was bitterly cold when we arrived, I had a ski jacket, knee high boots, jeans hats, scarves. As long as you plan in advance and wear layers there is no problem. Don't let the weather put you off.
